Guide to Mexico City

Vida Mia was created to elevate Mexican-American culture. Born in Chicago, raised by Mexican born parents, I traveled there every year with family to visit. These trips inspired me to begin hosting classes about the agave plant and serve agave-inspired beverages with food pairings at local restaurants in Chicago. Vida Mia became a platform to share Mexican history. The vision is to teach guests something new about us through food and intentional experiences. Today and onward, we will continue to celebrate the Mexican-American experience with a touch of elegance. Our mission is to build positive perceptions about our culture and bring joy.

Similar to our classes, this guide begins to tell you about about the land of Mexico City and is structured as a menu with recommendations for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a night cap. In 2010, Mexican gastronomy was declared “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). UNESCO describes Mexican cuisine as “elaborate and symbol-laden,” and goes on to explain that this culinary tradition is exceptional in its ability to “express community identity, reinforce social bonds, and build stronger local, regional and national identities.” Similar to this food ranking, Mexico craft cocktail bars have been repeatedly rated the top 10 in the World’s Best Bar list for decades. This guide was made through my eyes in visiting Mexico in 2023. Thank you for the opportunity to help guide your visit to Mexico.
